Day 1: Marrakech → High Atlas Mountains → Aït Ben Haddou → Dades Valley | Approx. 330–350 km Drive
Departure: Pickup from your accommodation in Marrakech at 8:00 AM.
High Atlas Crossing: Travel through the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi n’Tichka Pass. The pass sits at about 2,260 meters above sea level on the N9 road between Marrakech and Ouarzazate. Stop at viewpoints to take pictures and enjoy the mountain views. In winter, snow can sometimes close the pass, and your driver will adjust the plan.
Aït Ben Haddou: You arrive around midday. This historic ksar is known for its traditional earthen architecture and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. A ksar is a fortified village, with houses built close together inside high clay walls. It sits on a hillside above the Ounila River, and films such as Gladiator were shot here. Walk through the narrow alleys and climb to the old granary at the top of the hill for views of the surrounding area. Allow around 1–2 hours to explore the village. Lunch is available at a nearby restaurant.
Ouarzazate: Continue through Ouarzazate toward Dades Valley. You can add a short stop in town or visit Taourirt Kasbah as an optional stop. The Glaoui family, who controlled a major caravan route in the south, expanded this kasbah in the 19th century. Today it belongs to the town of Ouarzazate, and you can walk through its old rooms and courtyards. Entrance fees are not included.
Dades Valley: The drive continues through the Valley of Roses before reaching Dades Valley. The Valley of Roses centers on the town of Kalaat M’Gouna, where local farmers grow Damask roses for rose water and rose oil. If you travel between late April and mid-May, you may see the rose harvest and the yearly Rose Festival. You usually arrive in Dades Valley in the late afternoon or early evening, depending on the stops and road conditions.
Overnight: Stay at a hotel or guesthouse in Dades Valley or nearby Boumalne Dades. Your hotel depends on the accommodation category you choose. Dinner and breakfast are included with the half-board accommodation package. Lunch is not included.

Day 2: Dades Valley → Todra Gorge → Erfoud → Merzouga Desert | Approx. 275–310 km Drive
Todra Gorge: After breakfast, travel through Tinghir to Todra Gorge. On the way, you pass the large palm grove on the edge of Tinghir. In the last section of the gorge, the canyon narrows to about 10 meters wide, with rock walls up to 160 meters high on each side. Walk through the narrow canyon, take pictures, and enjoy the views of its high rock walls.
Drive to Merzouga: Continue through Erfoud toward Merzouga, passing desert landscapes and date palm groves along the way. Erfoud is known for its dates and for fossils found in the local stone. You can ask your driver to stop at a fossil workshop, where workers cut and polish this stone. In October, the town holds a yearly Date Festival. The drive takes around 5–6 hours, depending on your starting point and stops. With time for Todra Gorge and lunch, you usually reach Merzouga in the mid-to-late afternoon.
Desert Arrival: In Merzouga, prepare for your journey into the Erg Chebbi dunes. Erg Chebbi is a sea of sand dunes about 28 km long, close to the border with Algeria. Some dunes rise up to 150 meters above the rocky desert around them. Enjoy a camel ride to the desert camp, which usually takes around 1–1.5 hours. If you prefer not to ride a camel, a 4×4 transfer to the camp is also available. Both options are included in the tour.
Sunset: Ride through the dunes and stop to watch the sunset before continuing to the desert camp. Timing depends on the season and your arrival time in Merzouga.
Sandboarding: Try sandboarding on the Erg Chebbi dunes during your time at the camp. This activity is included in the tour package.
Desert Camp: Arrive at the camp, enjoy traditional tea, and have dinner with music around the campfire. Spend the night in your selected desert camp under the stars.
Overnight: Stay in your selected desert camp in Merzouga. Standard camps may have shared bathroom facilities, while luxury camps can offer private bathrooms and hot showers. Facilities depend on the camp category you choose. Dinner is served at the camp, and lunch is not included.

Drive Through Southern Morocco: Continue toward Marrakech through Alnif and Tazzarine. Alnif is one of the best-known places in Morocco for trilobite fossils, and small shops in town sell them. Travel through N’Kob and Agdz, with views of the Draa Valley, palm groves and traditional kasbahs along the route. N’Kob has 45 kasbahs, and some of them now work as small hotels. The Draa is Morocco’s longest river, at about 1,100 km, and its valley is lined with date palms.
High Atlas Crossing: From Ouarzazate, cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass before reaching Marrakech.
Driving Time: The return journey covers approximately 560 km and takes around 9–10 hours of driving, not including the desert transfer, lunch and stops along the way. Expect to reach Marrakech in the evening. If you want more time to explore N’Kob, Agdz or the Draa Valley, you can extend your tour with extra days.

Best Time to Take a 3 Days Desert Trip from Marrakech
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best times for this desert tour. Days are more comfortable, but desert nights can be cold. Summer (June to August) can be very hot, especially around midday. Winter (December to February) brings cold nights and possible snow in the High Atlas Mountains. Snow or bad weather can delay travel or affect the route. Book early during busy travel seasons. In winter, we leave Dades earlier to reach the dunes before sunset.
